Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Remember the old saying “actions speak louder than words”? Well, it couldn’t be more true. Every move and gesture we make can say as much as what comes out of our mouths.

"Most communication experts now believe that almost 90 percent of what we say comes from nonverbal cues, which includes our body language," says Patti Wood, author of Success Signals: A Guide to Reading Body Language. This includes everything from our facial expressions, to eye contact, to our gestures, stance and posture.

Flirtatious body language is an entity all its own. While both men and women use body language as a means of communication, women generally send five times more sexual body language signals than men. However, we both send non verbal cues that, whether we know it or not, let others know we’re interested. We found some great ones on RomanceStuck.com:

Non-verbal flirtatious cues women send:

  • Sways her hips while walking.
  • Licks or bites her lips.
  • Tosses, plays, or twirls her hair.
  • Holds a lingering gaze a few seconds longer than usual.
  • Giggles or laughs when you laugh.
  • Engages in friendly teasing.
  • Smiles suggestively.
  • Casually touches to your arm, shoulder, thigh, or hand.
  • Raises or lowers her voice volume to match yours.
  • Plays with her jewelry.

Non-verbal flirtatious cues men send:

  • Arches his back.
  • Laughs loudly.
  • Tugs his tie.
  • Clasps back of his neck.
  • Squares his shoulders.
  • Stiffens his stance.
  • Teases you in a friendly manner.
  • Smiles suggestively.
  • Engages in direct eye contact.
  • Casually touches you.

Do these trends ring a bell? What would you do when you cross paths with someone you’re interested in?
