It’s time for musical theater buffs to rejoice! Love Never Dies, the highly anticipated sequel to The Phantom of the Opera, is scheduled to open on Broadway on November 11, 2010.
Composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, first began plans for the sequel in 1997. Following a conversation with Maria Björnson, the designer of The Phantom of the Opera, Lloyd Webber decided to set the sequel in turn-of-the-(20th)century New York City.
Love Never Dies is set in 1906, approximately a decade after The Phantom of the Opera. The Phantom, having fled Paris, is running a freak show at Coney Island with Madame Giry and her daughter, Meg. Meanwhile, Christine Daaé has become a famous opera singer who’s fallen on hard times after her once-handsome drunken husband, Raoul Victome de Chagny, squanders their fortune. Christine accepts a high-paying job at one of Coney Island’s latest attractions, arriving with Raoul and their son, Gustave, and unknowingly returning to the Phantom.

My favorite musical couples are Maria & Tony from "West Side Story" and Angel & Collins from "Rent". Great post; can't wait to see if "Love Never Dies" is a hit or a flop!
