A marriage proposal is something most women dream about when they’re young. We fantasize and daydream and have the wedding day mentally planned out in its entirety by age 10. It's supposed to be one of the most magical and memorable days of our lives.
So, why then, do men still not seem to understand what we're looking for? If you’re going to propose, we want it to be romantic and special. Taking us to see your favorite sports team and getting down on one knee in the middle of the court in front of millions of people, gentleman, is not our idea of romantic! Particularly if we’re not a big sports fan to begin with. Special for you? Sure! For us? Not so much.

If you’ve witnessed (or even better, survived) a proposal blunder, please share it with us, we’d love to hear about it!

Man, that is so tragic! I would love to know what she said to him... obviously, it wasn't good!
My sister's good friend was proposed to about 6 months ago, and here's how it went.
The two of them went out to a very nice restaurant. She knew something was up. Her boyfriend was acting weird and she sensed that he was going to propose. They dined together...no proposal. They shared dessert...no proposal. They finished dinner and went for a romantic stroll in the park.
But nothing happened.
If it didn't happen by then, she figured, it wasn't going to happen that night.
Anyhow, they get into their car and drive home, pull into their driveway, unbuckle their seatbelts, and BOOM - it happens.
He proposed to her. Right in the middle of the driveway.
Her reaction?
She burst into tears. Not because she was happy. But because she was so let down.
Of all of the moments he could have proposed, he picked the least romantic.
She then went on to yell at him, throw the ring in his face and stormed into the house.
When I heard this story from my sister, I had two initial reactions. One, the guy's an idiot. And two, what a selfish way for her to react!
Sure, he should have put a hell of a lot more thought into the proposal. Yeah, he should have been way more memorable and romantic. More importantly, he should have known how important that moment was to her and their relationship.
BUT...
She should have been more reasonable. Throwing the ring in his face? Are you serious?
The fact is, a lot of guys don't go through their whole lives thinking about the perfect proposal.
They don't build it up to be this huge fairytale moment.
And they they certainly don't think about creative ways to outdo your friends' proposals.
And that's why so many rarely live up to the super-high expectations girls have.
So if the proposal truly is a do-or-die moment in your relationship, or if you have this grand vision of how it should be, talk about it. Who knows, it could help spark a little creativity and an even better proposal.
